Our Go-To for Design Inspiration...by Karma Flowers

Thursday, April 25, 2013

Over here at Karma and Trunk our minds are constantly turning, so there rarely is ever a shortage of fresh and new ideas pouring out of us.  But we can't help but stop by one of our most favorite stores in the whole wide world whenever we are in this Union Square neighborhood, to see what is relevant in the design world. ABC Home is a bottomless well of curated home goods, clothing, furniture and accessories and a go-to place for seeing the new pairings, new colors, and new trends in design. We were there just a few days ago and snapped shots of some of our favorite palettes, textures, and vintage finds.

We did purchase some fabulous vintage-inspired bud vases and a very cool {and half falling apart} vintage marquee letter 'C' for Charlie's room, but we will be back because we have our eyes on some of the finds pictured above.

Do any of these clusters of objects speak to you? Which one are you most drawn too?

Celebrating Earth Day... How We Strive to Live Green and Tips on How You Can Too...by Karma Flowers

Monday, April 22, 2013

Happy Earth Day!

I know, not the most exciting of holidays but probably one of the most important ones when it comes to preserving our planet. At Karma Flowers and Trunk we strive to keep things as green as possible and inherently some of our preferences work in our favor. For one, we love re-purposing old furniture and we support local farming with the purchase of our fresh flowers. Now with the company, our government jobs, a two year old son and a home to maintain, we aren't perfect. We may forget to bring our re-usable bags to the grocery store occasionally and there are plenty of to-do items in the way of going green that just have not gotten done yet. But we believe that one step at a time is the way to go and so we have taken that first step and automated our contract processing. No more printing and signing contracts -everything will be done digitally and we will be helping, albeit in a small way, of reducing waste.

Now, for those projects we would like to see done before Earth Day 2014...

Happy Anniversary Erika and Matt! 4.15.12 by Karma Flowers

Monday, April 15, 2013

This time last year we were eagerly prepping for Erika and Matt's Wedding at the Liberty House in Jersey City. It's hard to believe it has been a year. We adore these two and can't wait for the arrival of their first child in a couple of months. Congrats and here is to looking back on that special day and to celebrating the next chapter of your forever...

Follow us on our Installations...New Instagram Account by Karma Flowers

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

We want to make you really small and carry you around in our pockets so you can see all the beauty we see everyday. But we can't do that. So instead we created a new Instragram account called weddingdaytoday that will allow you to come along with us on installation days {for weddings, events, and photo-shoots}. And there is plenty of beauty to see there! So won't you join us?

{and by the screenshot I posted you can see what book I just ordered from Amazon. Thanks Jen!}

Doing it Differently 2013 Style...A Picture is Worth Everything by Karma Flowers

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

Sorry about the lag in the Doing it Differently 2013 blog series but we have had to back-to-back weddings, a speaking engagement in Boston and a holiday. We fall behind. It happens.

In any case, we wanted to share some of our favorite photographers with you to continue the series. How are photographers different? Well, some have this amazing ability to capture a moment so few would even consider be worthy of a picture. They have a knack of making you feel like you are somehow invading someone's most intimate, sacred moments - but in such a good way. The wedding portfolio on our website mentions each photographer's name on the opening banner of the couple's pictures and many brides-to-be have told us that they have chosen their photographers based off of this. So, we know you are listening {or reading} when it comes to sharing our colleagues' work. We have had the pleasure of working with some new photographers over the last year {some that have not made our portfolio just yet} and we wanted to share them with you.

We had the pleasure of working with Claire last July at a wedding at the Brooklyn Winery. Her work takes my breath away. Literally.

Tin Sparrow Studios shot a wedding that we provided a rental table and decor items for last summer and we instantly fell in love. Like major love. So much so that we asked them to shoot our son's 2nd birthday party this winter and the pictures make my heart melt {more of those in a different post soon.}

{that's us and Charlie}

When Jennifer of Cyrience Photography asked us to be a part of an early spring {OK it snowed so it did not feel like spring} photo-shoot we were beyond thrilled. That shoot will be published on a blog in a few weeks so there will be no sharing of those pictures at the moment but we adore her work and can't to continue to work with her.

Sara captured one of most favorite weddings of all time {they are all our favorite but this one was a labor of love} and then we asked her to be a part of a very special photo-shoot of ours. We heart her and her work.

And then of course we will always remind you of the brilliant work of ...

These talented photographers shoot so much more than weddings so if you have any event that you need captured in the most spectacular way, reach out to them. Their photographs will be the memories your children and grandchildren will have of your wedding day. Choose to have a kick-ass legacy.
