Charlie is turning 3! Let's Look Back on his Sledding Party from Last Year!

Charlie is turning 3!

So, our best design yet...our son Charlie... is turning 3! And to celebrate, we are packing our bags and heading to Disney. The thought of having to buy another plastic toy after the holidays was more than we could take, so we opted for the birthday trip. But we thought this was a fun time to look back to LAST year's birthday celebration. 

We live on a massive hill and dreamed about having a sledding party at our home in the winter months. We scheduled Charlie's party and kept our fingers crossed. Luckily, nature delivered. We were lucky enough to have more than a foot of snow on our hill on a Sunday in February
for all of our friends and family to enjoy. 

We knew most of the party would take place outside {and it was a warm-ish day} so we opted for a food truck to cater the party. The Oink and Moo BBQ truck parked in our driveway and fed the sleigh riders as they ascended the hill. The ribs, tacos, and cornbread were the perfect comfort foods for warming bellies on this winter day.

We kept decor super simple inside with a cake from Christie's Bakery in Clinton and some easy balloons and candles.

A Celebration for a New Senator...Dinner Party at Michael Anthony's in Jersey City

On October 16, 2013 former Newark Mayor, Cory Booker, won the special election and Senate seat for the State of New Jersey. His friend, talk-show host and Oprah's BFF, Gayle King, honored Senator Booker with a lovely dinner at Micheal Anthony's restaurant in Jersey City, NJ. Karma Flowers was called in days before to design and make the final arrangements for this star-studded celebration. 

Simplicity was key to this design so we decided on a classic pintuck linen and walnut Bentwood chair. We chose stems and greens in muted purples, grays, and ivory for the arrangements and accented the flowers with small hurricane oil lamps and amber votives. The beautiful menus and place cards {not pictured} were designed by Meghan of MLShaughnessy Designs and Jennifer from Cyrience Creative Studios was kind enough to run over and snap these gorgeous shots for us before the guest of honor arrived.

Karma Flowers recently had the pleasure of designing these centerpieces for an event and with carte blanch on the design, we did what we do best. . .simple and sophisticated with a tad of rustic, tinge of country, and a whole lot of organic. the white porcelain pitchers were right out of your grandmas curio; unearthed heirlooms. we filled -rather stuffed- them with cabbage rosettes, creme and lavender roses, hanging amaranthus, carnations (yes carnations!), green trick dianthus, poppy pods, and purple, long-stem artichokes. we think, together, it evokes a sense of comfort - just like your grandma would.

next time you are arranging your own bouquet don't reach for the clear glass vase you have recycled from the roses your ex sent you to win you back. instead, look for a container in your home that is cherished and well, unexpected. a basket, a piece of china, your favorite coffee mug...it will change the feel of the arrangement, the room and probably even your mood.
