Rebecca came to the Karma Team at the end of last year with a very sweet love story and a clear vision of what she wanted for her Liberty House wedding in March. Rebecca and Chris, roommates turned lovers, wanted to be surrounded by friends and family as they celebrated the beginning of their lives together. Their design preferences were uncomplicated, yet heartfelt, with an emphasis on their monogram- a symbol of their new union. They wanted a rustic feel to envelope the room while the city played urban backdrop. And...Gerbera Daisies were a must. So, here is what we did...

New Wedding Trend on the Horizon? Designing with Copper

My new obsession is copper. Last year we posted about mercury glass replacing the mason jar {as far as vessels go} in the event world. My hope this year is that copper makes a good run against the mercury glass.

Why? For one, we almost always encourage our clients to include a metallic into their design elements. They sort of ground the space with their density, almost always evoke a feeling of nostalgia, and add texture to what could otherwise feel like a very flat palette. Gold, silver, and brass are the obvious metallics but lately I have been drawn to the notion of giving copper a whirl. It is bright and cheerful in a very masculine way to me. It's androgynous and I like it.

This is the picture that originally peaked my copper interest. And I love that it is so accessible today with copper accent pieces popping up on many of the flash sale and design websites.

Real Wedding. Heather and Andy. Mountain Springs Lake Resort. August 18th, 2012 by Karma Flowers

This past August we had the pleasure of designing the flower arrangements for a rustic wedding at the Mountain Springs Lake Resort. I met Heather and Andy earlier in the year and they had a very distinct and precise vision from the start. Both are nature enthusiasts and they seized the opportunity to celebrate that love from their ceremony {with a nature inspired gazebo we adorned with curly willow and birch trees} to the reception {and the terrarium style centerpieces}.  Heather, a daisy lover, wanted to be surrounded by the simple white flower throughout her day. We set out to to infuse their personalities into the design with the shape and structure of the bouquets and the uniqueness of the centerpieces.  This couple really had a knack for detail. Everything from the trial mix bar to the birch log seating plan concept was a complete success.

The bride loved the idea of incorporating her family members and friends that had passed, onto her bouquet but was looking for something different than the small pictures attached to the bouquet wrap. So instead, Karma Flowers had her burlap ribbon hand-stamped with the names of those she had lost. We think it turned out amazingly well and it was a subtle, yet personal tribute to those who could not be with her on her very special day. 

Andy also wanted something a little different for his boutonniere {and his groomsmen's boutonnieres}. Karma Flowers used ostrich and pheasant feathers and fishing hooks to create a look suitable for a avid fisherman. 

The delightful wooden tags were done by Calligraphy by Allison.

Your Last Impression: The Final Detail of Your Wedding Day. by Karma Flowers

The get-away car seems to be something of the past... the one the couple ducks into after their nuptials and night of dancing, before jetting off on their honeymoon. I think more couples should creatively embrace this tradition because it just feels so nostalgic to me and it makes for a fun photo-op. Infuse your personality couples...it's the details that count and this will be the last bit of you, you can sneak in on your way out!

Plus Model Magazine Bridal Issue Shoot by Karma Flowers

It was such an honor to be asked by Jessica Lavoie of the most amazing Jessica Lavoie Photography to participate in the first Bridal Edition of the wonderful Plus Model Magazine. Karma Flowers and Trunk Vintage Rentals {a division of Karma Flowers} were both involved in this gorgeous shoot that took place on the rooftops and streets of Manhattan. When it came to my suggestions to Jessica {the photographer} for the styling of the pictures I knew I wanted it to feel romantic and sweet - a real juxtaposition to crowded, bustling streets of the city. 

 The bouquet we made was comprised of the most beautiful white Peonies and Astilbe {my favorite}.

 A chalkboard is such a cute way of adding language to your still pics!

 I wanted to create a moment where the bride appeared to be writing her vows, so I brought in the chair and small details that I think help capture the moment.

Wedding Flowers at Alba Vineyard, NJ. Rick and Tatiana. May 19, 2012.

So this wedding was super-duper exciting because we had the opportunity to be a part of so much more than the flowers. Even Trunk, our vintage rental company, was involved. From the fabric ceremony backdrop, to the parade wands, to the isle markers, signage, billy ball seating chart, vintage dessert and seating chart furniture pieces, centerpieces, ribbon chandeliers {of which I have no pics yet} and the bouts and bouquets {again no pics yet}, Karma Flowers made it, sewed it, strung it, arranged and delivered it. Whew. 

But it was all worth it for an amazing couple.

The setting was a beautiful in vineyard in NJ of all places {crazy, I know.} But the bride and groom wanted to bring their love of the water into the decor, hence the blue!
