This summer we were delighted to lend our rentals to a sweet inspiration shoot at Straw Hill Farm in New York State. The awesome team of Alexis June Weddings and Cyrience Photography, collaborated to showcase how these and vintage and rustic goods can be used to create a beautiful and Eco-friendly backyard or farm get-together. Yesterday, the shoot was featured on Every Last Detail and we wanted to share it with all of you. A Pretty Day of the Dead Halloween on Love Inc Magazine

Kristyn and I set out to create a beautifully unexpected Halloween tablescape this holiday. Using our inventory, some borrowed goods from Smith & Chang, some paint and a bit of creativity, we think we accomplished just that. Jennifer of Cyrience Creative Studios shot these photos at Smith & Chang last week and Love Inc. Magazine was sweet enough to share them with all of you! Summer Wrap-up with a Nautical-ish Baby Shower by Karma Flowers

The summer has come to an end. At least in our minds, right? And I wanted to wrap-up the summer on the blog by sharing some events that we lapsed in blogging about as we worked and played through the warm days.

The first is this sweet sweet baby shower that we were a part of thanks to Kim and Meghan at Lulu's Event Design. The celebration took place on the water at the Oyster Point Hotel in Red Bank, NJ. The sky was clear, the sun was shining and a very intimate group of women gathered to some show love to a soon-to-be-Momma. We designed the centerpieces using peonies, brunia, ranunculus, and lush greens and complemented them with nautical-inspired lanterns. In all truthfulness, these arrangements are some of our favorites, EVER and a lot of that has to do with the elements {flowers and greens} that we were able to use {thanks to trusting clients who left the design in our hands.}

We are overjoyed to know that the baby has arrived and we are so honored to be a part of this beautiful celebration.

Hi there. We just wanted to share a project that we were happily brought into a few months back that landed on The Wedding Chicks blog earlier in the week! Jennifer of Cyrience Photography and Brandi of Alexis June Creative were kind enough to let me create this gorgeous King Protea bouquet for their Greek-inspired photo shoot in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.

Busy as Bees Over Here... and a Photo Shoot to Embrace It! Honeycomb Trends by Karma and Trunk

The last few months have been jam packed with beautiful weddings over here at Karma and Trunk and we were feeling a little worker-bee-ish. So, when I was approached to design and style a recent photo shoot with a Bohemian vibe, I thought we should embrace the honeycomb trend in interior design we have been seeing, and make it work in an event space.

Knowing I did not want a literal translation of the honeycomb into the design, I created this vision board to communicate my inspiration with all of the vendors involved.

The team that came together for this shoot was spectacular and we can not wait to share all of the beautiful pictures with you. Details included handcrafted candle holders, a vintage, French military cot, and a handmade, glass honeycomb ceremony backdrop by the inspiring Bespoke Glass Tile in Brooklyn, NY.

Doing it Differently 2103-Style...Your Guide to New Wedding Ideas, Projects, and Vendors

Last year around this time we did a series of blog posts called "Doing it Differently" which highlighted ways to stray a bit from tradition when planning and designing a wedding. We featured some of our favorite vendors and ideas for making a wedding personal and unique. The series was a huge hit and we thought we would take some time before the wedding season kicks off, to do it all over again. New ideas, new projects, new vendors over the next three blog posts...don't miss it!

Hello Fellas.

For once, we are starting a wedding conversation with the groom. That's right. Often ignored  yet so, well, integral to most weddings, we thought we would spend some time focusing on him. 

He is Dapper. 

A little tired of the boring black tux? And even a little tired of the bow ties and suspenders? We don't blame you. We are too. We love when the groom is included in the personal touches so when hook +ALBERT called to rent one of our precious vintage trunks for their display at Accessories The Show  in New York City back in February, we instantly became smitten with the company. 

Dress Socks, Loafer Liners, Colored Shoelaces, Lapel Flowers, Elbow Patches & Ties.

Need we say more?

Now I would be a fool to advertise something that would take money out of my own pocket, but lapel pins in place of a traditional boutonniere are something I want to scream about. They are classic and cool and so not itching your guy's nose when he is standing at the alter.

So ladies, I know it is all about you but hook your guy up with some cool duds for the big day. 

And iron-on elbow patches? Okay, maybe not for every wedding but I know if Matt Powers is reading this blog right now he is ordering a pair. 

Make Them All Dapper.

Traditionally we only adorn the lapel of the groom, groomsmen and dads with a snazzy little boutonniere. However when I saw this idea from Southern Weddings Magazine I instantly heard that "why didn't I think of that?" voice in my head. 

A BOUTONNIERE BAR. Yay.

Just as they said in the magazine, why not let every guy at your event feel like an honored guest? A mirror, some matching bouts, a few pins and hello...you now have a classically elegant affair. LOVE!

His Space.

Bridal suites available at most locations are primarily used by the bride and her ladies. The groom is often left getting dressed and hanging out in his best bud's room. Why not give him a space and a potentially amazing backdrop for pictures with his entourage? A groom's lounge designed from vintage furniture rentals is {uh-hum} one of the best ideas I have heard in a long time.

Not sure what to give the hubs or the groomsmen for their efforts in making your dream day everything it was? Well, a man's gotta eat. The Mantry is a subscription to domestically made, artisan foods. It is a fun way to try new foods and learn about new companies. Unpacking the crate and preparing some new appetizers makes for a great post-wedding date night.

New Wedding Trend on the Horizon? Designing with Copper

My new obsession is copper. Last year we posted about mercury glass replacing the mason jar {as far as vessels go} in the event world. My hope this year is that copper makes a good run against the mercury glass.

Why? For one, we almost always encourage our clients to include a metallic into their design elements. They sort of ground the space with their density, almost always evoke a feeling of nostalgia, and add texture to what could otherwise feel like a very flat palette. Gold, silver, and brass are the obvious metallics but lately I have been drawn to the notion of giving copper a whirl. It is bright and cheerful in a very masculine way to me. It's androgynous and I like it.

This is the picture that originally peaked my copper interest. And I love that it is so accessible today with copper accent pieces popping up on many of the flash sale and design websites.

A 40th Birthday in Brooklyn, Jalopy Theater

At the beginning of December we were asked to help out with a pretty cool 40th Birthday Party at the Jalopy Theater in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Jon's wife, Cindy, invited 90 of his closest friends to come and celebrate Jon in a very personal way...his bands from high school and college reunited to preform for the fist time in years and Jon even joined them. There were other acts including a banjo performance and a poem reading,and it was a beautiful tribute to a man that obviously is very much loved and adored by his friends and family. 

Cindy asked us to create the signature drink station which we did using our oak barrel table and vintage vessels. It functioned as a Bourbon tasting station and Prosecco-making headquarters for the night. Cindy also asked us to do something creative with Jon's old band posters which were blown-up and hung in creative art displays on the brick walls and accented with string lights.  Rather than a traditional cake, doughnuts from Doughboy Bake Shop in Brooklyn hit the spot at the end of the night! I think I ended up eating three of them. {That is all I have to say about that.} We used a few of our smaller tables and serving materials to create the dessert station and all was accented by the always-appropriate-at-a-Brooklyn-party over-sized number balloons and the creepy statue provided by the Jalopy Theater. That's a party folks. And a fun one at that!

The Jalopy Theater has done a ton in the way of supporting Red Hook and helping it get back on its feet after Hurricane Sandy. If you are in the area, please support this wonderful theater/bar/restaurant that has done so much for its community. These businesses deserve the patronage.
