Why We're Obsessed with Tattly

When I was pregnant with Charlie, I had a dream nightmare that Charlie was born with a huge red heart tattoo on his left arm. In my nightmare no one believed that it was a genetic miracle and everyone blamed me for tattooing my newborn child. I woke up in cold sweats and have honestly really never recovered from it.

However, despite that traumatic experience, I am over the moon about the tattoos at Tattly. So much so, that this is not my first blog post about them. I think they give the opportunity to have a "tat" I would never have the nerve to get in real life. {Fun fact: I do have ONE real tattoo on my rib cage!}

A Behind the Scenes Look. Jess and Josh. The Liberty House, June 1, 2013 by Karma

Have you ever wondered what it's really like behind the scenes at a event design company?  Here at Karma, we spend our days using all of our artistic energy to make our client's creative visions come alive.  There is no hour too late and no vase too heavy to lift.  But the long hours and months of designing always pay off.

In the last few days of May, we put all of our creative energy into Jess and Josh's June 1, 2013, wedding at The Liberty House.  We secured a lush garland along the metal beams around the ceiling. We used mock orange branches to make oversized, tree-like arrangements that were placed on every farm table.  {Never before have we plucked so many leaves from branches!} Tables were accented with arrangements of white hydrangea and china mums.  Every boutonniere and bouquet was carefully hand designed and executed by our talented team.  We can not wait to share some of the professional pictures by Jason Gardener Photography.

Creative Ways to Honor Military Veterans at Your Wedding

In honor of Memorial Day, we’ve been thinking of a few ways you can honor those veterans that are close to you on your special day.  Maybe it’s your grandfather who fought in World War II or your maid of honor’s husband who is overseas.  There are creative ways to honor those who sacrifice so much for our country.

Use the color yellow.  The color yellow symbolizes respect for the military.  Place a small arrangement of yellow flowers on tables where veterans would have been sitting if they could have attended your wedding.  Think sunflowers or gerbera daisies.  You can even use a piece of twine or burlap to tie a small chalkboard around the arrangement.  Honor your loved one by writing their name on the chalkboard.

Place photos in mason jars.  Photos are timeless.  Place photos of all loved ones who have served in the military in mason jars.  Scatter the mason jars around your centerpieces.  Looking at photos through glass creates a unique effect.

Make an honor table.  If you have many friends or family members who have served or are overseas at the time of your wedding, you can create on honor table.  Set up an antique bench or table at one corner of your venue.  Put photos of your veterans in antique frames and place them on the table in between candles, jars, and flowers.  If you have family and friends overseas at the time of your wedding, you can also place stationary and pens on the table with a small box for guests to write letters to those who could not be at the wedding.  After your wedding, send the letters to your special veterans.  It is a thoughtful way to include those who could not be present.

How to Use Vintage Pieces in Your Outdoor Event

Making an event unique is all about the little details.  Everything from velvet sofas to wicker chairs and mason jars to dishes can be combined to create a custom look for your event. 

With the summer months ahead, event planners take advantage of the warmth and schedule their events to take place outdoors.  Some of the most beautifully unique events are those that bring the indoors out. 

Incorporating vintage furniture warms up the outdoor space and creates a cozy feel.  Furniture also provides functionality for the space.  Outdoor spaces are beautiful, and added vintage pieces make the serenity of nature that much more comfortable.

One of the easiest ways to incorporate vintage furniture into your creative vision is with seating.  Instead of using typical white wooden chairs around your dining tables, consider using a wicker bench or aqua colored wooden chairs.  If it’s a wedding that you’re planning, consider using vintage church pews for guests to sit in during your outdoor ceremony.  Their worn edges will add a sense of charm to your special day.

Among the bigger furniture pieces are the smaller vintage details that can be used to highlight your personality.  Think about using vintage trunks to display photos in vintage frames of you and your fiancé traveling during your dating years.  Display an assortment of vases and multicolor jars with floral arrangements to add punches of color throughout the space.

The combinations are endless.  Any creative vision can be successfully achieved with the right pieces and accents.
