DIY for Kids and Adults to Survive Another Snow Day!

It's going to be another snow day here on the east coast. They seem to come too often lately. If you are like Dave and I, you welcome the extra day home with your child BUT by mid-afternoon you are all getting on each other's nerves a bit. We truly have had a winter of all being locked inside together. So, in anticipation of the 10" of snow we are supposed to be graced with tomorrow, I began scouring my favorite resources for a mid-day project we could all participate in. It is usually the perfect way to bring everyone around the table to divert energy and attention into making something fun. 

I have compiled a list of DIY projects perfect for a snow day. I tried to find ones that could be made of common household items, but in some cases you still have some time to run out and grab those supplies.

If you decide to tackle these distractions, I mean projects, let us know. We would love to see your creations! And the good news is, for our wedding and event fans- some of these can even work at your celebration!

The Last Five Things I Bought from Pinterest...Day Four

The first thing I want to reiterate is that Pinterest is just the means to tag these items. They all come from their individual shop/company owners. I know sometimes I have a hesitation with blindly ordering an item knowing seemingly so little about a company and not being able to hold the product in my hands before taking the plunge, so hopefully these posts will encourage you to trust the crafty people of the world or at the very least buy the stuff I already bought because I was your test dummy.

ASOS has been a site that I have been a bit up in the air about. Enough of my clothing Pins have led me back to the site for me to consider buying an item. However the prices always being so low, and the vast amount of variety in their inventory was a bit unsettling. But when I saw this polka dot dress and the price I thought- now or never.

I took the plunge and ordered it in the navy color and it is cute. I think I could have gone down one size {and I ordered my normal size} but other than that, it showed up at my door {which is more than I expected} and it's cute! My two cents is to continue to be weary of massive clothing sites like ASOS. It is perfect for the trendier pieces you don't want to break the bank on but splurge with other retailers for your staple pieces.

When we decided to go to Paris last winter I was Pinning Paris all over the place. Pictures of Paris, French sayings, berets, you name it. And then I saw this wood block children's set and I had to have it. I could not order it online at the time but I do get into NYC often and was able to get to one of the Muji stores to purchase it. We brought it to Paris with us and tried to remember to make the connection between the sights and the blocks so that Charlie would make the correlation when we arrived home. And he does! He still plays with the blocks when he plays with his trucks and yells Eiffel Tower every time he takes it out of the bag. 

Colette Bream

A tail or two for you... I loved these immediately when I saw them. I think I am instantly drawn to anything that looks handmade and is done well {and that is the Colette Bream shop in a nutshell}. And I  pictured my son and niece and nephew running around the house in a little animal parade. I  ordered two tails and a felt crown {for our little princess} last Christmas and was delighted when they arrived in time for the holiday. They are a little larger than I anticipated {so probably are best for a child 3 years or older} but are fun nonetheless. They make great whimsical gifts and retail for $42 plus shipping.

Poketo

I was immediately drawn the Native American feel I felt this necklace evoked and I was not disappointed when it arrived in the mail. My Pin on my "Things" board led me to the Poketo website where I ordered it with no problem and it was promptly delivered to my doorstep. It is real leather and made well. It holds up to the little people in my life constantly tugging at it and it looks super sharp paired with a white v-neck and a pair of jeans. You can't ask for an accessory more effortless than that!

The Last Five Things I Pinned and Purchased from Pinterest...Day One

I Pin all day long. Literally. A little here, a little there. It's my guilty pleasure. My problem is though that I need to actually buy the stuff I Pin. It's not good enough for me to just be sitting on my "Things" board - I need the item in my hand. So every few weeks, I go through all of the tangible things I have pinned and purchase or dump it. I know, I am a strange bird.

In any case, this has led to some awesome purchases that are worth me sharing with you and some buyer beware tips, so I thought while me and the hubby and kiddo are away for a bit {don't worry I have managed to squeeze a design workshop in there so it won't be ALL rest}, it would be the perfect time for a little blog roll of the things I have recently bought from "Pinterest."

I saw this banner from Secret Holiday on Pinterest and the link brought me to their Etsy shop. I immediately knew I had to have it because if you are a parent you know that you must say "It's OK" about one zillion times a day. I thought this cute affirmation banner would not only be a reminder to my son that everything is indeed OK {once he can read it} but it would also be a nice reminder to my husband and I. We appropriately hung it at the base of our steps so that when we walk down in the morning, it is one of the first things we see as we begin our day.

I was shocked {probably more than I should have been} at how absolutely well made this banner is. Everything is hand stitched and it is finished immaculately. I couldn't be happier with it.

So if you need a daily dose of reminding that "It's OK" order this perfect little addition to your abode.
